The Division of Biomedical Informatics at CincinnatiChildren's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and University of Cincinnati (UC) is invitingcandidates to join the research team. CCHMC is one of the most renownedclinical and academic pediatric hospitals in the United States and is anational leader in basic and clinical science. It ranks SECOND nationallyamong all pediatric centers receiving grants from the National Institutes ofHealth (NIH), with $144 million in NIH awards in 2017, and houses one of thelargest pediatric research programs in the United States, receiving about $220million in research funding in 2017. The division of Biomedical Informaticsfocuses on the understanding of comparative/functional genomics, systemsbiology, and proteomics; genome-wide association studies of diseases; clinical datawarehousing and data mining; machine learning, natural language processing; andhigh-performance computing.
TheDivision now offers an exciting PhD scholarship in Biomedical Informatics. The Doctor of Philosophy in BiomedicalInformatics program is an important cornerstone for a program of academicexcellence in informatics at UC and CCHMC. Leveraging partnerships between theUC College of Medicine, CCHMC, and the UC College of Engineering and AppliedSciences, the program provides an in-depth knowledge of key analytical conceptsthat underlie applications of informatics and biomedical data science, rangingfrom the study of molecules to precision medicine on individuals andpopulations. Students will learn how to implement, analyze, and improveinformatics systems in a real-world, premier health care research and deliverycenter.
We encourage applications from outstandingcandidates with academic backgrounds in Computer Science, Engineering,Mathematics, Physics and related fields. Successful applicants to the programtypically have a strong quantitative and/or computational background and a keeninterest in biomedical and clinical informatics or a related discipline such asMachine Learning, Natural Language Processing. We seek to increase the numberof women in areas where they are underrepresented and therefore encourage womento apply. Furthermore, we are committed to increasing the number of individualswith disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourage applications fromsuch qualified individuals.
